Blackbird

In October 2002, Anton Conings, Bennie van de Brink en Benno van den Hoek (pictures) trapped a Blackbird with a stick sticking out of its back.

The stick appeared to have a sharp point at one end. Inside the body, the stick was completely capsuled in. We managed to twist it out off the bird without causing any bleeding.

There was a scar on the chest where the stick had apparently entered the body. Whatever happened to this bird is anybody's guess but it was ringed and released in good health.
